Madden NFL 21 is launching on August 25th but don't be alarmed if you don't see the Washington Redskins team in the game. Mid-July, the football team announced that it will change its name as the word “redskins” is a controversial term. So the team dropped the last word from its name. It is now known as the Washington Football Team. This is only a temporary name. The people in charge will come up with a new name before the NFL season starts on September 13th.
The decision to change the name was welcomed as it was the topic of disputed arguments for many years. EA officials were happy with this action. The development team went to work right away to make the updates. The old name and the logo will not be present in Madden NFL 21. That's all good news, however, there is a slight problem.
The game launches on August 25 and it's possible that the work will not be finished by then. This is not the development team's fault. In fact, no one is to blame for this thing if it happens. EA is waiting for the team to come up with a new name so they can update the game as soon as possible. The removal of the old name and logo will happen on launch day. An automatic update will take place the first time players go online. That's when the name and logo will be removed but we will have to wait until we see the new name and logo in the game.
At this point, the developers are removing all the references that contain the old name and logo. However, they also inform us that we might see some of them in the game. After all, the game launches in just a few weeks and this announcement came unexpectedly. The weeks before launch are busy for the developers as they are working on more aspects of the game. The decision gave the developers extra work.
The EA Access players will be the first to see some of the changes. These include updates to the audio and commentary. The motion graphics and presentation will also be updated. Environments such as stadiums are part of the first changes too. Uniforms and crowd gear will follow. It all depends on when the team releases the new name and logo. Even though the EA team is hard at work, they might not get all the old references until launch day so don't be surprised if you will still see some of them.
