D-pad tactics are a FIFA 20 feature that allows players to choose from four attacking and four defending tactics. They are called this way because players activate them using the d-pad. If you are playing on PlayStation 4, the d-pad refers to the directional buttons. Xbox One players will use the d-pad and PC players will use the arrow keys on the keyboard.

No matter which one of the above systems you use, the D-pad tactics will allow you to better control the tactical approach. You can change tactics very fast using this feature. The good thing about it is that you don't need to pause or restart the game. Simply choose the tactic that better fits the current situation and that's it. Using the d-pad tactics in the right way can make a huge difference so you better get used to them. While you are playing a game, you can activate any of the eight tactics using the d-pad section.

If you are playing on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, the up button on the d-pad will show the attacking tactics. If you press down, the system will show you the defensive tactics.

If you are on the PC, use the up arrow for attacking tactics and the down arrow for defending tactics. Further, you can press up or down to see the four options menu that will show you the four attacking or four defending tactics. You can select a tactic by pressing any direction on the d-pad. You can choose any tactic you want at any time. It's up to you how you decide to use them. A tactic is activated until it is turned off. You will see the chosen tactic happening when the situation allows it.

If you want to deactivate a tactic, you have to do the same command as when you activated it. It is a simple operation so don't worry about it. The offside trap is the exception to this rule. This d-pad tactic doesn't have to be deactivated. This is a temporary action that is done by the players with defend position. Keep in mind that the right and left sections on the d-pad do not activate any tactics. These buttons have different functionality. When you press these buttons in a game, you will be able to select a game plan.The game plan option will depend on which custom tactics you have chosen. The balanced plan is the default plan. This is the plan that will start with each match if no other plan is selected.
